Why It Exists
Coloproctology makes up close to 30% of the workload in general surgery, yet dedicated specialty training in the field is rare outside a handful of developed countries. Most of India's roughly 55,000 practising general surgeons spend twelve years reaching their MS qualification without a focused course in this area — and a comparable number of surgeons face the same gap elsewhere in the developing world.
ISCP created the Fellowship (FISCP) to close that gap — giving general surgeons in developing countries a structured route to better, gentler patient care, without requiring years of additional formal study.
Programme Structure
Theory Modules (by mail)
Anatomy & Physiology of the colon, rectum and anal canal · Benign diseases (Part I: haemorrhoids, fissures, suppurative disease; Part II: remaining benign conditions) · Malignancies · Functional diseases · Investigations. ISCP provides textbooks on registration, and this syllabus is tested by MCQ during the workshop.
One CME Attendance
Candidates attend at least one Continuing Medical Education session.
Workshop & Hands-on Training
Live, supervised operative training alongside experienced faculty.
Annual Conference
Attendance at ISCP's Worldcon, where academic and clinical discussion continues.
Interview & Discussion
A concluding interview and discussion held during the workshop.
